Famous Noordwijk Citizens

Kevin (born 21.07.1988) and Jalou (born 27.04.1990) Langeree Both successful Kitesurfers. Brother and sister have been awarded many national and international titels. Both live in Noordwijk and are well-known at the Noordwijk Beach!

Edwin van der Sar (born 29.10.1970) Successful keeper. Booked many successes with soccer clubs as Ajax, Juventus and Fulham. He has been playing for Manchester United since 2005. Van der Sar has chosen Noordwijk as future home.

Prins Pieter-Christiaan Michiel van Vollenhoven (born 22.03.1972) Prins van Oranje. Third son of Prinsess Margriet and Prof. Pieter van Vollenhoven. The prince married Anita van Eijk on August 25th 2005. The religious marriage was in Noordwijk. They also live in Noordwijk.

Louis van Gaal (born 08.08.1951) Soccer coach
Louis van Gaal was after his soccer career a successful soccer coach. From 1991 til 1997 Van Gaal was coach for Ajax. Since 2005 he is trainer for AZ Alkmaar. He currently lives in Noordwijk.

Alfred Henry (Freddy) Heineken (1923-2002) Powerful force behind Heineken. Under his leadership Heineken became a global brand. Heineken had been founded by Freddy's grandfather Gerard Adriaan Heineken. Alfred Heineken started working at the company in 1941. He stepped down as general manager in 1989.

Daniƫl Noteboom (1910-1932) One of the greatest chess talents the Netherlands has ever known. Noteboom played for the Netherlands during the 1930 Chess Olympics in Hamburg and the 1931 Olympics in Prague. He is buried in Noordwijk (in the public graveyard), where there is also a chess club in his name. Upon his grave is a chessboard and a number of chess pieces.

Maria Montessori (1870-1952) Founder of the Montessori schools. In 1934 leaves Maria Montessori Italy, because Mussolini wanted to intervene in her education system: she especially could not accept his decision to have children wear school uniforms. She moves to Barcelona, where she had to leave in 1936 because of the Spanish civil war. In the same year, she moves to in the Netherlands, where the headquarters of the Montessori movement had already been established. In 1950, she was appointed a "Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau" and was awarded an honourable doctorate by the University of Amsterdam.
