Harmonieorkest Excelsior Wassenaar – Anniversary Concert – Ode to the Sea!

Excelsior Wassenaar pays a musical tribute to the sea: impressive, powerful, and indispensable to all life on Earth. The central piece of music in this performance is the symphony Save the Sea by composer Frigyes Hidas. Music by Gustav Holst, Philip Glass and David Maslanka will also be performed.

Soloist Thorwald Jørgensen will pay tribute to the coast on the theremin, while Claire van Kempen will alternate with the orchestra, performing beautiful musical still lifes on the piano. The concert will be not only a musical experience, but also a visual one, with footage from, among others, the European Space Agency (ESA) shown during the performance.

Excelsior is an ambitious and friendly concert band with more than 50 members. In 2026, the orchestra celebrates its 125th anniversary. The orchestra is firmly rooted in Wassenaar, but is increasingly taking a regional approach and will make its way to Noordwijk for this performance.
