The theme for the 2024 Painting Festival edition is Colour. The artists work outside: 'plein air' and make use of the natural light, which is constantly changing. They try to capture that specific light and the changing colors on a canvas. They follow the tradition of French artists who, about 150 years ago, began to free themselves from the obligation to represent visible reality as faithfully as possible. They refused to continue making art that met the standards imposed by the academies. They turned their backs on the official Salon, grouped themselves in artists' associations and organized their own exhibitions, where they showcased their new art. They distorted and discolored what they observed to their heart's content and let their individual feelings and mood speak for themselves. These impressionist painters depended on the outside light. The artist went outside with his easel and paint tubes to paint there. The light outside changed so quickly that the artists worked quickly to capture the image. They made an IMPRESSION of the moment. The Impressionists tried to capture the short-lived effects of light on colors and shapes. They often used bright colors, applied thickly, to capture landscapes and contemporary daily life in the cafes, theaters and boulevards of Paris.

In this tradition, we put the Spotlight on Color. Color as a means to capture the changing light or to express an emotion.

From 18 to 23 June 2024, paintings will be for sale in the Festival Tent of the Noordwijk Painting Festival, which are made daily by 40 (inter)national professional painters in and around Noordwijk. They paint from observation, in the open air. The theme this year is 'colour'. Many Noordwijkers now have a (small) collection of work by the best plein air painters. The paintings are for sale at a lower price than in galleries, because we as a foundation charge a lower markup. The offer increases during the week. At the end of the week, when the nominees and the winner of the Maja van Hall Painting Award are also selected by a jury, the tent is full.

Opening hours. Daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, June 23 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Location: Festival tent, Kon. Astrid Boulevard Noordwijk, exit 5 and 6
