Noordwijk improves service with CityTraffic

What is CityTraffic?
CityTraffic is a research agency that measures visitor numbers and flows in many Dutch cities. In Noordwijk, the company measures visitors in shopping streets, on the seafront, beaches and approach roads, among other places, any time of the day, 24/7. Through sensors that pick up the Wi-Fi signals of mobile devices, CityTraffic is able to accurately measure the numbers of passers-by.

Why CityTraffic?
This hi-tech technology allows Noordwijk to monitor where exactly in Noordwijk and at what times of the day things are busiest. The sensors are spread across the shopping precincts in Noordwijk aan Zee and Noordwijk Binnen, various access routes and boulevards. In the future, visitor numbers will also be measured in Noordwijkerhout, in the shopping precinct. These figures will allow the municipality of Noordwijk to provide an even better service going forward.

CityTraffic anonymises data
Don’t worry, CityTraffic is not an invasion of your privacy. The company only measures visitor numbers and uses this information to draw up composite reports. In no way or form is people’s personal data recorded. All measured data is encrypted, making it completely anonymous, similar to how traffic jams are measured in the Netherlands daily. But, if you really don’t want to be picked up by the sensors, simply turn off the Wi-Fi on your device.
