Noordwijk is surrounded by beautiful natural areas of dunes and woods, so close to the big cities and yet so vast and unspoilt. You can stroll for miles through the dunes through the Coepelduynen towards Katwijk, the Noordduinen towards Zandvoort and Langeveld at Noordwijkerhout. A small stretch of divers dune area reaches from Wassenaar to the top of South-Holland. This area is called Hollands Duin. Nearby you also have the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen, with a visitors' area in a beautifully restored pumping station. In addition to the dune landscape, there are also fantastic wooded areas such as Landgoed Leeuwenhorst, in the municipality of Noordwijkerhout, which is largely managed by the Zuid-Hollands Landschap organisation. An extensive network of paths takes walkers through coniferous woodlands and open dune fields, with surprising views. You might pick a path leading over the highest ridges, with views of the North Sea on one side and the bulb fields behind. Observant walkers can spot foxes, roe deer, squirrels or even fallow deer.

There are many cycle paths and routes in the area, including paths through the dunes to Zandvoort and Katwijk. Mountain bikers will have the time of their lives here. There is a special path for them through the pine woods in the Noordduinen. Another option is walking or cycling with a guide who knows the way and has prepared the route. It's good exercise on foot, or you can hire a bike, scooter or moped if you prefer. The varied landscapes of woods, rugged dunes and colourful bulb fields make wonderful biking routes.
The beaches of Noordwijk: Duindamse en Langevelderslag
Noordwijk aan Zee has a variety of beaches: off the north and south boulevards, Duindamseslag and Langevelderslag, and in the direction of Zandvoort. The location of the Duindamseslag and Langevelderslag beaches gives them a completely different atmosphere to those by the central boulevards. The access roads are surrounded by peaceful nature and dunes. The Duindamseslag can only be reached on foot or by bicycle through the dunes. At the end of the Langevelderslag is St(r)andplaats Nederzandt, which can be accessed by car.

More dynamics in the dune fringes and serenity on the beach. The Noordvoort beach reserve, a quiet stretch of beach between Zandvoort and Noordwijk, is between beach markers 70 and 73. This unique silent reserve on the beach invites visitors to follow a 3-km meandering path along the dune fringes and through the dunes, boasting three gorgeous panoramic views.
Noordvoort provides an oasis of peace and tranquillity for the seals and a wide variety of birds, and helps restore the natural dynamics and inherent qualities of the dune fringes.
